Short Day for Edwards in Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen, N.Y. (August 7, 2010) – After finishing Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide practice at the top of the board, the outlook for Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Fastenal team was promising. Saturday morning Edwards qualified fourth for the afternoon race at Watkins Glen. In the first ten laps, Edwards quickly moved his way into third position. He and the first two position cars quickly broke away from the rest of the pack running out front.
On lap 21 Edwards reported that something was not right with the No. 60 Fastenal Ford. He navigated his machine down pit road and brought it to the team, where they quickly went to work in an attempt to get Edwards back on the track. Unfortunately, due to a mechanical issue, on lap 30 Edwards and the team were done racing for the day.
“I don’t know exactly what happened...it’s certainly not the outcome that we wanted,” Edwards said. “The entire team was working really hard but our Fastenal/Copart Ford just wasn’t going to go any further. It’s a great race track and I’m really looking forward to starting on the pole for tomorrow’s race.
In the end, Marcos Ambrose held off the entire field to win his third straight Nationwide race at Watkins Glen.
Next Saturday, Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Valvoline team will head to Michigan for the second race of the year with the new Ford Mustang. Catch all of the action on ESPN Saturday, August 14, starting at 1:00 p.m. ET.
