Second Place Finish in Michigan for Edwards
Brooklyn, Mich. (August 14, 2010) – Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Valvoline team ran a competitive race to the end at Michigan International Speedway Saturday afternoon. Edwards quickly moved his way to the front of the field after qualifying 14, Saturday morning. From his start at the drop of the green flag Edwards never fell further back during the 125 lap event while leading a total of 19 laps.
“I thought this race was pretty fun and I wish we could have won this thing but, Brad’s team really earned that victory,” Edwards said. “A win in this Mustang today would have been great for Jack, Ford and Valvoline. We had a pretty good showing so I guess we’ll move on to tomorrow’s race.”
Under the direction of crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer the No. 60 crew made minimal changes to the Ford Mustang as the laps passed. By lap 15 Edwards moved into the fifth position and came on the radio saying that the car was a little free on entry. About 15 laps later he came into pit where the team made a front air pressure adjustment while putting on four fresh tires and fuel.
Shortly into the next run, Edwards said that the car was feeling pretty good. The team would make one more air pressure adjustment on the No. 60 and on lap 82 Edwards took over the top spot for the lead.
With about 15 laps remaining Edwards had a four second lead on Brad Keselowski. Unfortunately, due to a late race caution, Brad Keselowski caught Edwards on the restart to go on to win the event with Edwards finishing second.
Next Friday night, Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Fastenal team will head to Bristol. Catch all of the action on ESPN Saturday, August 20, starting at 7:00 p.m. ET.
