Testing with the Big Boys:  Bryan Clauson climbed behind the wheel of a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) car this week at Lowe’s Motor Speedway to participate in the last NASCAR sanctioned NSCS test of the 2008 season.  By the conclusion of the first day of testing, Clauson and the No.40 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) team were fourth fastest on the speed charts, lapping the 1.5-mille oval at 184.5 mph in 29.337 seconds.

TUMS Timeout:  On his way to the Kansas City, Kan., area this weekend, Clauson will stop in on the St. Louis, Mo., area to visit with some TUMS employees at the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) TUMS Plant.  He may even try to take in some St. Louis Cardinals baseball at Busch Stadium before jumping on a plane to proceed to his final stop in Kansas City.

The Last Time He was Here:  Clauson made just his second NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Kansas Speedway this same time last year.  In his second career run, the rookie racer drove more like an experienced veteran.  After starting 33rd, Clauson methodically raced his way into the top 20 during the first 100 circuits.  From there, Clauson continued to maintain position and even moved up as high as fifth.  Unfortunately, Clauson fell victim to competitors with fresher tires as the race drew to a close but he fought hard to finish the race inside of the top 15.  Unfortunately, contact with another car on lap 185 sent him spinning into the outside retaining wall and relegating him to a 23rd-place finish.

Rookie Standings Update:  The last time Clauson was the Raybestos® Rookie of the race was at Auto Club Speedway last month, which marked the fifth time this season he has grabbed the top rookie honors in a NNS competition.  Clauson is currently second in the NNS Raybestos® Rookie of the Year standings, just four points behind rookie class leader Landon Cassill (175-171).  The Noblesville, Ind., native has claimed rookie of the race honors five times in 17 total starts this year (California-Aug.; Daytona-Feb.; Richmond-May; Kentucky-June; and Daytona-July).  The car Clauson is racing this weekend at RIR is the same car he raced at the Virginia track this past May, which helped him earn rookie of the race honors at RIR with a 21st-place finish (stared 16th).

NNS Owner Standings Update:  With six races left to run this 2008 NNS season, the No.40 Fastenal Team is 20th in the owner standings.  With a currently tally of 3,070, the team is just 251 points outside the top 15.

Fastenal Racing Internship at CGRFS:  This year, CGRFS is proud to partner with Fastenal to offer an internship to two automotive trade students.  Participants in the program will get to spend one week at the CGRFS facility in Concord, N.C., learning what it takes to prepare a car for race day.  They will also be flown to Texas Motor Speedway to support the team at track this upcoming November.  The opportunity is available to graduates, or soon-to-be graduates of an automotive trade program.  For more information on eligibility and application deadline visit Fastenal.com.

Check out the Parrott Perspective:  Clauson’s NNS Crew Chief Brad Parrott is keeping fans up to date on what is going on in the world of the Fastenal Racing Team through an online blog he is keeping throughout the 2008 NNS season.  Check out the Parrott Perspective at www.fastenalracing.com.
