Fastenal Team Makes Special Pit Stop for St. Jude
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (October 23, 2008) – Before heading to the Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park to race the 32nd NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race of the 2008 season, the No.40 Fastenal Team made a special stop on Thursday morning to visit with the children and staff at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Since a lot of the children and their families won’t have the opportunity to go to the Memphis Motorsports Park to watch this Saturday’s Kroger on Track for The Cure 250, the Fastenal Team members did their best to bring the track to them by taking the Fastenal transporter to the hospital for the children to tour and see the team’s at-track racing operations up close and in person.
Fastenal Drivers Kevin Hamlin and Bryan Clauson both stopped by the hospital to spend time with the children and their families. Hamlin and Clauson didn’t go alone, as they were joined by their fellow team members, including: Crew Chief Brad Parrott; Team Mechanics Marcus Bonicelli, Dan Bormann and Tyler Jones; Race Engineer Ross Fletcher; Truck Driver Mike Hofmeister; Engine Tuner Tim Jones; Car Chief Mark Rette; Tire Specialist Bryce Spence; and Shock Specialist Scott Vogelsong.
Although it rained non-stop all morning, it did not deter the fun and special event, as multiple children stepped onto the team’s transporter for tours and checked out the team’s primary race car for this weekend’s run.
Not only did the kids get autographs from the drivers and team members, each child who visited with the team was handed a sharpie to put his or her own autograph on the No.40 Fastenal car’s deck lid. Some even tried on Hamlin’s and Clauson’s helmets and tested out the driver’s seat themselves.
Fastenal made sure the kids didn’t leave empty handed either, as Fastenal t-shirts and hats were free to the children, families and hospital staff.
Then, after packing their truck up and preparing it to proceed to the race track, the Fastenal Team was taken on a tour of the St. Jude Children’s Research facility. It was an experience the team members will never forget.
As part of the overall visit to St. Jude, the No.40 Fastenal Dodge will have a different look this weekend at Memphis as part of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Design-a-Dream contest. Eight Nationwide Series cars will sport special paint schemes designed by children at St Jude’s in this weekend’s race at Memphis, including the No.40 Fastenal Dodge. Along with Hamlin’s No.40 Fastenal Dodge, defending series champion Carl Edwards is part of the program, as is defending race winner David Reutimann, Jason Leffler, Scott Wimmer, Scott Lagasse Jr., Stanton Barrett and D.J. Kennington.
