Fastenal Dodge Finishes 31st at LMS

May 27, 2008

CONCORD, N.C. (May 24, 2008) – Bryan Clauson and his No. 40 Fastenal Dodge Team were set to come out of Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) with a clean run Saturday night  when a punctured right-rear tire gave way and sent the No. 40 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) Dodge spinning on the track.  The Fastenal Team went behind the wall to make the necessary repairs, and less than 25 laps later Clauson was back on track to make it to the finish in 31st place.

Clauson and team lined up 20th to take the initial green flag at LMS in the 13th NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race of the 2008 season.  Thanks to consistent lap times and a fast two-tire stop on lap 27, the No. 40 had climbed to eighth by lap 31 of the 200-lap event.

Just as the field was approaching the halfway point of the race, Clauson made a quick move to go low on the track in order to avoid a wrecking car directly in his path on lap 80 and successfully avoided the incident.  The No. 40 car had been handling a little too loose during the majority of its effort but tightened up on the teenage racer as his run progressed.  During the pit stop, crew chief Brad Parrott called for air pressure and track bar adjustments to try to balance out the car’s handling.

It was on the 123rd circuit of the night when the No. 40 blue and white Dodge went spinning on the track.  The car received major damage to its nose and rear end so the team went to work behind the wall to make the necessary repairs and concluded a punctured right-rear tire was the culprit behind the spin.  They continued to repair the damage and less than 25 laps later the Fastenal Dodge rejoined the field in 36th place.  With just a little more than 50 laps remaining, Clauson maintained a steady run and picked up a few more spots to finish the night in 31st place.

The No. 40 Fastenal Team is now 19th in the overall NNS owner standings.  With a current tally of 1,391 points, the team is 181 points away from the top 10 and 646 points outside of first.

Next up for the NNS teams is Dover International Speedway. The 200-lap race will be run on Saturday, May 31, starting at 3 p.m. with live coverage starting at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

BRYAN CLAUSON:  “We had a really good car and it suddenly got loose there.  We’d been fighting that a little bit on the long run.  I just went into one and two there and lost the right-rear tire.  We had it going down there and we should’ve come in and pitted but we thought we could stick it out.  We didn’t know that’s what it was for sure so we tried sticking it out there and it ended up biting us.  I’m really proud of everyone on the Fastenal team.  They did a great job this weekend.  We didn’t get the qualifying effort we wanted.  We came out in the race and made some moves early and got ourselves some track position and just had a little problem on the rear end there.  I’ve got the three non-companion races coming up so we have a nice little stretch here that we can get going.  I’m really proud of all the guys and look forward to racing more throughout the next month.”
