Edwards Finishes Seventh at Bristol

August 24, 2014

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2014) - Starting position is very important in Thunder Valley on the high-banked half-mile oval. Edwards qualified third in his Ford Fusion for the second week in a row. While fighting a very tight condition through nine cautions, he ran in the top-10 the majority of the 500 lap race. When the checkered flag flew, Edwards and the No. 99 Fastenal team were able to capture a solid seventh place finish and their 10th top-10 of the season.

Edwards immediately reported a tight condition through the center on lap 26 after dropping from his third place starting position to seventh. On lap 60 NASCAR's competition yellow flag flew and Edwards pitted for fuel, four tires and wedge changes and reentered the race in P-9.

Edwards fought through the normal barrage of cautions and the Fastenal team tweaked their Ford Fusion through the nine cautions and very humid conditions in the Colosseum to make adjustments for a tight condition that just wouldn't go away. Edwards and his Fastenal gladiators worked several strategies to put themselves in a position to challenge for the lead. When the final caution flag flew on lap 432 they stayed out behind the No. 20 car while the rest of the field pitted. This strategy put Edwards in the second position fighting Matt Kenseth for the lead, but eventually the old tires started losing grip and Edwards, while fighting hard, fell back to seventh. He was still able to keep the rest of the field behind him and he finished a very solid and hard fought seventh, capturing his 10th top-10 of the season.

Edwards and the No. 99 team travel to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Oral-B USA 500 next weekend. They will be sporting the Subway colors. The race is set for Sunday, August 31. Coverage will begin at 7:30pm ET on ESPN.
