Edwards Finishes Second at Phoenix
AVONDALE, Ariz. (February 26, 2011) – Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Ford Drive One Mustang team were very strong and had an exciting race by running in second for the entire 200 laps at Phoenix International Raceway. Edwards’ Ford Mustang posted a good qualifying time which placed him on the outside of the front row. Edwards raced Kyle Busch for the lead and fought him hard over the last 25 laps to the finish.
Edwards ran a very competitive race from start to end. He started second and maintained that position for the entire race. He fought Kyle Busch through only three cautions and was gaining on him at the end. He raced Busch side-by-side for twenty laps but just fell short at the end. The crew did a great job on setup and only made a few minor adjustments on pit stops to keep Edwards in the fight.
The final laps were intense and the battle was exciting but ultimately the No. 60 team had to settle for a second place finish.
“We made a run at the end on Kyle Busch,” stated Edwards. “I did everything but move him out of the way and I thought about that, but he did a great job. Those guys did well. He drove that car. It was loose and he did a good job hanging on to it. It was one of those deals where I had to get him fairly because I knew he’d get me right back. This was a good race. I’ve had some of the best races of my career out here and I really enjoy this race track. I’m glad we got up there and got to challenge him so the fans could see a little bit of a show there at the end. I’ve got to thank Ford. This Ford Mustang is fast. My guys have been working hard all winter. The engine was good. All the guys at the shop did a great job.”
Next week the No. 60 team heads to Las Vegas to run on their first 1.5-mile track of the year. They will be running the Roush Clean Tech Propane Energy Ford Mustang. Edwards and the No. 60 team are focused on getting to Victory Lane in Las Vegas. The Sam’s Town 300 will be televised on ABC at 3pm ET.
