Edwards Finishes 29th at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb 19, 2011) - Carl Edwards rallied back to a
29th-place finish in the No. 60 Fastenal Ford after having mechanical
issues early on in the NASCAR Nationwide DRIVE4COPD race at Daytona
Edwards worked himself up to seventh place before experiencing
mechanical issues on lap 28, which sent him to the garage for repair.
Edwards encouraged his No. 60 Fastenal team to fix any issues before
heading back out on the track. “Let’s fix the problem. We still have a
lot of laps left in this race,” said the veteran driver Edwards.
The Fastenal No. 60 crew quickly resolved the issue and Edwards returned
to the track on lap 41; in 35th position and 13 laps down.
By lap 70, Edwards had worked himself up to the 33rd position. Around
lap 90, Edwards hooked up with teammate Trevor Bayne to run their
fastest laps of the race. Edwards helped Bayne get back on the lead lap
after he got a lap down due to a flat tire.
After a series of wrecks in the closing laps that took out a multitude
of cars, Edwards crossed the finish line in the 29th position of the
NASCAR Nationwide DRIVE4COPD 300.
Edwards continued to encourage his team over the team radio.
“We have a great car and a great team, so keep your heads up,” said
Carl and the No. 60 team return to action next Saturday at Phoenix
International Raceway. Race starts at 5:30 p.m. EST and will be
televised live on ESPN2.
