Edwards Clinches Spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup
SPEEDWAY, Ind, (July 27, 2014) – Carl Edwards started 18th in his No. 99 Fastenal Ford Fusion at the historic Brickyard. Jimmy Fennig, crew chief made several wedge and air adjustments during the 160 lap race and was able to capture their 14th Top-15 of the season and clinch a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Edwards reported a loose race car and advised a little wedge would help the condition. NASCAR called for a competition yellow on lap 20 because of rain the previous night. The Fastenal crew jumped into action with wedge, 4 tires and fuel.
Edwards Green Flag pitted on laps 40 and 66 for 4 tires, fuel and wedge and moved up as high as 9th place. The 2nd caution hit while on pit road, but Edwards beat the leader to the start/finish and landed in 12th when the field went green on lap 72. Edwards caught some trash on track and dropped back to 16th.
By lap 90 he gained back 2 positions to P 14.
The 3rd caution flew on lap 96 when the 21 car wrecked. Edwards pitted for fuel, tires and wedge. Green flag flew on lap 101 and Edwards was in 15th. He passed four cars on lap 102 and shot up to 11th, but fell back to 13th on lap 104.
On lap 120 Edwards reported the car had the best balance so far.
On the 3rd Green Flag Pitstop Edward pitted on lap 128 for fuel, tires and more wedge to tighten up his Fastenal Ford.
Edwards fought hard the final 17 laps to capture his 14th Top-15 of the 2014 season and clinch a spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
