Dissapointing Finish for Edwards in Texas
Ft. Worth, Texas (April 19, 2010) – After a two day rain delay Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Fastenal team had a disappointing outcome Monday after finishing 30th. Edwards started the Nationwide race from the fourth position and by lap 128 he managed to become the fastest car on the track. Unfortunately bad luck struck with a broken axle on the No. 60 Ford Fusion, causing Edwards to finish 36 laps down. Edwards dropped to fifth in the overall point standings, -106 behind point leader, and race winner, Kyle Busch.
“Today was very frustrating especially with my guys working so hard, Edwards said. I did have a good time out there right up until my troubles with the broken axle. I just want to thank Fastenal and Copart; we will move onto Talladega next week and try to get some points back.”
Starting from the second row, Edwards consistently ran in the top five for the majority of the afternoon. On lap 10, running in third position Edwards radioed into crew chief Drew Blickensderfer saying that the car was all around too loose. On lap 25 the No. 60 team made a pit stop with four fresh tires, fuel, and a round of wedge.
On lap 66 Edwards came back down pit road where his team made an air pressure adjustment, taking ½ lb of air out of the left front. By lap 128 Edwards was the fastest car on the track running in the second position. Five laps later, Edwards was able to pull out front and became the race leader.
Luck went away for the No. 60 team on lap 135 with green flag pit stops. Upon exiting the pit stall the rear axle and first gear broke on the No. 60 Ford Fusion. The team jumped into action pushing Edwards back to the garage making repairs. Frustrated, the team was determined to get the car back on the track to gain any points possible for the remaining laps. By lap 171 the team had Edwards back on the track. Kyle Busch went on to take the checkered flag with Edwards finishing 30th.
The Nationwide Series returns to action next Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway. Catch all of the action on ABC at 2:30 pm E.T.
