Clauson Finishes 21st at Richmond International Raceway
RICHMOND, Va. (May 5, 2008) – Bryan Clauson drove his No. 40 Fastenal Dodge to a 21st-place finish at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) Friday night in his seventh start of the 2008 season.
Clauson rolled off the grid 16th for the NASCAR Nationwide Series 250 and settled into the top 20 with a very tight race car. The teenager tried to hold on to the lead lap until the first pit stop, but with more than 60 laps of green-flag racing the Fastenal Dodge went a lap down to leader Carl Edwards. When the caution flag waved on lap 67, Clauson missed the “Lucky Dog” pass by inches. Crew Chief Brad Parrott called for some chassis adjustments, four tires and fuel, which in the long run seemed to bring the car around to Clauson. The team would continue to battle being a lap down for the remainder of the event. The young racer and the Fastenal team went on to finish the 250-lap event in 21st place, making him the highest finishing rookie of the NNS event.
The No. 40 Fastenal Team stands 17th in the overall NNS owner points. With a current tally of 1,212, the team is 130 points away from the top 10 and 460 points outside of first. Next, the NNS teams head to Darlington Raceway to run the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 on Friday, May 9. The NNS race is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ET and will broadcast live on ESPN2 and MRN Radio.
BRYAN CLAUSON: “Our Fastenal Dodge was really strong. We missed it a little there on the start and made a couple of adjustments on that first pit stop. After the changes, we ran some good lap times. We were a top-10 car tonight but we got stuck a lap down and couldn’t recover from it. I’m really proud of all the guys. Our finish doesn’t really reflect it but we really did have a strong weekend.”
