Carl Edwards - Race Summary
September 13, 2010Richmond, Va. (Sept. 10, 2010) – Racing under the lights at Richmond International Raceway, Carl Edwards started from the fourth position in his No. 60 Copart Ford Mustang Friday night. In the first short track race featuring the new Ford Mustang, Edwards ran in the top-five for the majority of the 250-lap event. In the last 20 laps, the handling on Edwards’ Mustang started to change causing him to loose ground to the leaders and he finished the race in the tenth position.
“Our Copart Mustang wasn’t quite where we needed it to be tonight,” said Edwards. “I’ve got to say congratulations to Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.) on his good run tonight and Paul (Menard). Both of those guys ran great tonight. We just have to go onto the next one and get better to get into victory lane.”
At the start of the race, Edwards came over the radio saying that the car was slightly snug in the center and loose off of the corners. On lap 108, the Copart.com crew went to work in the pits making a track bar and air pressure adjustment along with adding four fresh tires and fuel. Edwards entered pit road in the sixth position and took the restart from the 22nd position.
Stating that those changes seemed to be helping the handling of the car, Edwards quickly moved back up through the field. By lap 142, he was running in the fourth position.
Crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer would call his driver down pit road two more times for stops with similar adjustments during the remainder of the race. Each time, Edwards felt that the car was getting better after each pit stop. Unfortunately, with about 15 laps remaining the car started to change and get loose. Despite hard work and precision in the pits, Edwards ended up finishing tenth. Fellow, Roush Fenway racing teammate and rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr., finished fourth while Paul Menard finished eighth, putting three RFR teams in the top-10 for the night. Kevin Harvick went onto win the race after leading 170 of the 250 laps.
Next week, the Nationwide Series will take a break and return September 25, at the Monster Mile, Dover International Speedway. Catch all of the action on ESPN2 Saturday, September 25, starting at 3:00 p.m. ET.
