"Big One" Collects Edwards Early in Talladega

April 26, 2010

Talladega, Ala. (April 25, 2010) – The NASCAR Nationwide Series had their second rain delay in two weeks, making for another back-to-back day of racing for Carl Edwards. Starting on the outside of the front row for the Aaron’s 312, Edwards looked to have a solid potential race winning car. On lap 20, fellow Roush Fenway Racing teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made contact with Edwards. The accident cost Edwards valuable positions and laps. The No. 60 Fastenal crew went to work quickly in the garage to get Edwards back on the track. He eventually drove to the end finishing in the 35th position. He was able to maintain his fifth place position in series’ points. Brad Keselowski went on to take the checkered flag.

“My guys did a great job today back in the garage getting this Fastenal Ford Fusion back together,” Edwards said. I got hit so hard that I couldn’t believe that the car would still run. We’ve had bad luck the past two weeks with two great race cars. We are fast with plenty of races left this season, we just have to keep digging.”

Just before a scheduled competition caution the No. 6 of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. got into the rear of the No. 60 causing Edwards to spin up the track and back down into on coming traffic. Crew chief Drew Blickensderfer quickly guided the No. 60 crew making necessary repairs to get Edwards back on the track. Around lap 28 Edwards was able to get back onto the track running in the 38th position only 7 laps down.

Due to a tire rub from the previous accident, the right rear tire went down on lap 46. Edwards came down pit road bringing his car to the crew where they put on four fresh tires and bent out the rear fender slightly. Once he was back on the track Edwards was running competitive lap times with the leaders. In the end Edwards finished 35th and was ten laps down.

Fastenal will ride again on the No. 60 next week as The Nationwide Series heads to Richmond, VA. Catch all of the action Friday night at 7:00 pm E.T. on ESPN2.
