After Sitting on the Pole Position, Edwards Finishes Sixth

April 11, 2010

Phoenix, AZ (April 9, 2010) – Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Copart/Fastenal team captured their first pole for the 2010 season in qualifying for the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200. Running inside the top 10 for the entire night, Edwards finished sixth behind eventual race winner Kyle Busch. This finish makes Edwards the only driver to have finished all races thus far in 2010 inside of the top ten.

“Today was not the finish that we wanted, but our Copart Ford Fusion was certainly fast enough to sit on the pole, Edwards said. We had that first pit stall and I guess it just didn’t work out like we had planned. I love racing here, it is one the best tracks that we go to throughout the season.”

Sitting on the pole, Edwards started the night on the inside front row after qualifying with a time of 27.49. Throughout the night Edwards radioed into crew chief Drew Blickensderfer stating that the car was tight in one place and loose in others. The decision was made that overall the No. 60 car was a bit too loose. The team made pit stops twice during the first half.

On lap 74 the team pitted making a track bar adjustment. Restarting in the fourth position, these adjustments were effective helping Edwards to keep the No. 60 running in the top five. On lap 112 Edwards brought the No. 60 Ford back down pit road where the team made the same track bar adjustment.

The heat was turned up on lap 137 after a ten car pile up on the front stretch brought out a red flag. Once the field started back up, pit road was open. Blickensderfer determined to stay out.

On lap 187 the No. 60 team had their last pit stop of the night. Edwards still saying that the car was a little loose, the crew put two fresh right side tires on and made an air pressure adjustment. Restarting in second place with ten laps remaining Edwards fell back in position. In the end, Edwards collected a sixth place finish, his sixth top ten finish this season. As a result, Edwards moved from first to second in series’ points, trailing Brad Keselowski by only four points.
